Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater Harvesting

One of the main challenges rainfed areas face is the erratic nature of rainfall. Sudden burst of rainfall, in the absence of appropriate land management practices results in large volumes of rainfall being lost as runoff. This runoff holds the potential to support valuable livelihoods through cultivation of second and third crops.

Harvesting of water, its storage and subsequent usage is a practice adopted since time immemorial. Farm ponds & check dams are an extension of this tradition, and represent a relatively new technology being promoted at the farm level.
