Although, national level policy documents envision administrative units at the lowest rung being able to internally meet their requirement of water, the gap between demand and availability is widening. Plaguing this gap is stiff competition between sectors of irrigation and industry. With competing use, drinking water requirement of locals stands to be compromised.
Water Security is being piloted as an innovative concept to plan water utilization patterns based on availability. Scientific assessments of water availability vis-à-vis utilization are triggering local communities to identify remedial measures where by they can plan a more sustainable water resources regime.
